How to Fix FreeARC Context Menu Not Working on Windows Laptop or PC

If you are using FreeARC but its context menu option does not appear when you try to create an archive by right-clicking on files, it is likely that you missed an important step.

We know that FreeARC, like other archiving software, is used to compress files into archives so they can be easily shared or uploaded to the internet, however, tools like WinRAR and ZIP, despite their older interface, continue to receive updates and have more advanced features, including well-integrated context menu options.

In contrast, FreeARC has not received significant updates, as not many users archive their files into the .arc format anymore, it may feel like the software has been left behind.

In this tutorial, I will show you a simple way to add FreeARC to your right-click context menu. So, how do you do it? Let’s go through it together below.

Tutorial :

  1. First, download the software from the provided link.
  2. Then, right-click the program and select "Run as Administrator".

  3. Then the UAC prompt will appear; click the "Yes" button.

  4. Now, on the installation screen, click the "Next" button.

  5. Then click the "I Agree" button.

  6. Click the "Next" button again.

  7. At this point, check the two boxes that I have highlighted.

  8. After that, click the "Install" button.

  9. Now wait until the software installation process is complete.

  10. Once the installation is complete, click the "Finish" button.

  11. Your laptop/computer should restart automatically.
  12. Once it’s done, try right-clicking the files you want to archive using FreeARC.
  13. If the option appears, then everything is working, enjoy!.

Closing

That’s all for this tutorial, it’s actually very simple, mainly because FreeARC has never really updated its context menu feature, as a result, if you skip those two checkboxes during installation, the context menu option won’t work, even though it appears in the settings, it doesn’t actually take effect.

So, you’ll need to reinstall FreeARC and make sure to check those options during the installation process.
